Reformation Day – 500 years


An historical landmark that changed history, but sadly, made little difference to the way humans behave; they still settle their disputes by fighting – either with words or weapons.

With all of the excitement of Halloween and the celebrations around it, Oct 31st is also a celebration of a very important date in church history. It is the day that Martin Luther nailed the ninety-five theses on the church door in Wittenberg on October 31st 1517 starting the reformation of the modern day church.

“500 years ago, a German monk named Martin Luther started a protest that exploded into worldwide movement. At that time, Europe lived in the shadow of the Roman Catholic Church. It was more like an empire than a church. It crowned and cast down kings, and used its dominance to keep people in the darkness of superstition. That sounds pretty unfamiliar.
